94 Jeep GC stalling out on me!

A few weeks ago, my jeep GC, 4wd, 6cyl, started stalling out on me. It eventually got to the point where it would turn over strong but would not start. With my limited knowledge, I checked the basics.. nothing.. I pulled off the number 1 spark plug wire.. held it next to the a/c bolt .. expecting to see a spark.... nothing happen. It went to the mechs the next day... and he changed the fuel pump. It seemed to work...When I got the jeep back.. everything was fine for about 4 days.

The stalling is back. Sometimes it stalls just letting it idle, but for the most part .. it likes to do it on the road! [I want to say it does it when when I let up on the gas. I know when it shuts off while idling, its usually when I have reved it up to about 2k rpms and let take my foot off the gas, letting the rpms drop off fast] outside my first expericne with it a few weeks ago.. it has been starting up fine[has stalled 3 times since friday] it idles a bit rough nothing noticable bad and the engine, 201500miles, sounds pretty good. From a forum search.... I cant help but think i need to look at the cps and the iac. Do you guys think this is a good starting place? I was also going to change the sparkplugs tommorow.. as I have an intermitting check engine light. that flashes on and off until the engine gets warm.. then it stays on unless I am accelerating. (i heard this is from misfiring)

BTW about 2 months ago.. I had to get the fuel filter changed....the thing under the driverside passenger seat[on the bottom] I had a nice fuel leak from a bad connector... just thought I would add that.

So is the CPS or the IAC a good starting place?

Let me know.... will be in work all tommorrow....

IACm would be the most likely culprit.

we always recommend cleaning the throttle Body and IAC slot just to make sure thats not the problem. then if that doesn't help you can replace it.

ok... cleaned IAC.. nowww....

First of all let it be known.. that the jeep would start this morning... the only reason I wasnt driving it was that it would cut off on me. .. Ok with that said.. I went ahead and changed the sparkplugs.... and I took the IAC motor off cleaned it.. it was pretty gunky, cleaned the slot, cleaned the throttlebody.... when i went to start the jeep up.. it started so I went and raced the engine while squirting the cleaner in it. All seemed to be fine.

I had forgotten to meter the IAC out.. so I went ahead and took it back off to meter it. While the haynes says i should meter across pins 1 and 3 and 2 and 4 for my year I found that I got opens on those pins. When I metered as if my jeep was a 99 and later, pins 1 and 4 and 2 and 3.. I get about 54 ohms. Anyhow ... after I got the IAC back in... the jeep will not start. it only turns over.. turns over strong but doesnt start!

I was only in that area... so... any ideals why it wont start? would a bad IAC make the engine not start? Whats the deal with my IAC metering like its on a 99 and later jeep.. is that bad.. or need I not worry about it?

Let me know what you guys think...

Thanks

OK it started.....

I saw a thread to do with the fuel pressure regulator.. I turned the jeep on and left it on for about a min. I then started it .. and it started..... man.... and I thought ea-6bs were hard to troubleshoot!

So I ask how can i check the fuel pressure regualtor without all those snazzy tools

Thanks......

Re: 94 Jeep GC stalling out on me!

To be pefectly honest I do no tknow of a way to check with out the fuel pressure guage, nor do I think there is a way.

as for the IAC test, I know exactly how u feel, I get no reading from the 1/3 and 2/4 pins, but when I do the 1/4 and 2/3 I get a reading, I think the haynes manual might be off.

AHhhhhhhhh....

I was about to put it on the road again after idling for about 30 mins with no hesitation or much roughness. .. I was pulling out of the driveway on to the main street.. .and it died on me.... one thing that surprised me .. it made a sound... kinda like i left a tool under the hood and it hit something...... I know I didnt .... did a good ataf.(marine aviation) .. but thats what it sounded like... it started back up.... and I parked it...... gotta study for a psy test...... and this puppy is going back to the mechs tommorrow morning........

I hate to shotgun......but i would now feel better just replacing both the cps and the iac... there are just so many variables going on.. that I cant isolate anything down!

Good luck with your respective teams, (for those watching the game)

HI, TRY THE SAME THING A COUPLE TIMES ,YOU CAN NARROW IT DOWN AND WHY BUY PARTS YOU DON'T NEED. A OLD A/C GAUGE CAN BE USED TO CHECK THE FUEL PRESSURE DALE

Re: 94 Jeep GC stalling out on me!

My1994 jeep GC had same problem with 3 COILS in 2 years. turned out to be the coil 2wire plug. Since i couldnt find one with out buying a 200$ harness, i went with a ford coil havent had that problem in 2 years.
