Thumbs up four cyl., header or turbo?

I want to know which would be a better buy if I had the money for either a really good header or a turbo kit. The reason I am asking is because after searching the archives I couldn't find anything on a good header but tons of stuff on turbos, of course. I know that dcsport doesn't sell any for the four cyl. and that is the only company I really like, or trust or know of selling good headers. Can anyone help me out with out me having to do a crap load of researching. Apprec. Thanx.

Um.. if money isn't a problem, certainly get a turbo.

If you are honestly asking for an opinion based on a no $$ limit, no one in their right mind would tell you to get the headers over turbo. You are talking about a gain of MAYBE 10HP with headers...or a gain of at least 70hp with a turbo (at least...with tuning a lot more). If money isnt a restriction than turbo is the way to go.

Re: four cyl., header or turbo?

i'm a TURBO advocate

dont even waste money on an exhaust system unless you do plan to turbo. NO bolt on parts will give you any significant WHP gains. if you are itching to spend money, buy some quality(AEM,EBC,etc.) brake rotors, pads, and SS lines. maybe some new rubber or a cool stereo system to impress the chics.

Does anyone know where to find SS brake lines for a 2000 GT? Ive been looking and no one seems to cary them. Also, about how much do those run? Over 200...i hope not. Ive already got aftermarket brakes on (i wanted a big brake kit...but 1000+$$ was not in the market for me) and want a little stiffer brake pedal. Anything else i can do to help this besides SS brake lines?

A big brake kit is overkill, unless you plan on having a ridiculously quick car or doing 100+mph stops regularly, there is just no reason to spend that much. Better pads, rotors, SS brake lines, decent brake fluid, and you are set.

This is a brake upgrade guide for 3000gts, but it has a ton of good info that is applicable to anybody wanting to improve their braking...check it out:

Re: four cyl., header or turbo?

thanks for the opinions, but, I want my car to last a considerable amount of time and I know how much gain a turbo has over header, my question, I guess, is for the long term, will a turbo be to harsh over a long period of time than a header or does it really make a difference as long as the internals for the engine can handle the turbo. And you tell me if seven g's is considered not having a money issue. I don't know how much cat back, turbo kit, port and polish, crossed drilled slotted rotors w/ nice pads will be altogether. I know I would need all of that plus whatever else comes up in the mean time. Still need help someone?

first off, to me, 7 grand is not a money problem. that should be enough to run a decent amount of boost with a turbo.

as long as the turbo kit is tuned correctly, you wont have problem with it over time. this does not take into account that you floor it everytime youre at a red light. that would cause problems on any engine on matter what the mods are.

STAY AWAY FROM CROSSDRILLED/SLOTTED ROTORS!!! THEY ARE PRONE TO CRACKING. you can either go with cross drilled rotors or go with slotted rotors. do not go with a combination of both. check this link out. http://www.club3g.com/forum/showthread.php?t=26046 this has happened to many many people.

Re: four cyl., header or turbo?

very true about what eclipsed said- its all about the tuning. but in reality, your car is always gonna be FWD eclipse. you should leave your 3G alone and invest that $7K into a 1st gen GSX or GST. you could have a car far more superior for less money than it would take to make your 3G comparable. you can have daily driver and a "race" car.
