rear window regulators?

have a 2001 LS, rear windows fall down after going over bumps and stuff. currently have 45k miles on it. rear somewhere that there was a technical or recall bulletin about the rear window regulators. can this be replaced under warranty? how hard is it to replace them myself if its not covered underwarranty? is there a write up on this somewhere?

If you are still under the factory warranty they will fix it no problem. The TSB number on this issue is 02-07-03. If one regulator fails the dealer is *supposed to* replace both rear regulators. Ford really needs to step up and do a recall on these regulators. It seems like everyone's fails sooner or later.

Yes, all year LSs come with the 4 year, 50k warranty. As long as your LS wasnt purchased before the current date in 2001 you are still covered. Even if you are not covered you can ask your dealer for an after warranty adjustment which they may or may not do. I think you can purchase the parts for both windows from fordpartsnetwork.com for less than 60 bucks. I saw a write-up on how to do it at llsoc.com i think.

Hey, I just took my car in to get the driver's door regulator replaced. I didn't know what happened until they told me. My window was stuck, and when I held the button to put it down, the motor just broke something inside. They either need to make these regulators much stronger, or make the motor weak enough that it won't break the parts.

I also got the valve cover gaskets changed, due to the common oil leak that everyone has complained about on here. My car has 51k miles on it, so I was just over warranty. Fortunately, the dealer offered some kind of extended warranty to make two repairs up to 75k miles. So, I used that on these fixes. Hopefully I won't see any other major (more expensive) problems crop up soon. Otherwise, I may have to ditch this car and get something reliable.
