Question 96 power problem

I have a 96 with a 5.0L. I am having an intermittent problem with it dying and starting back up. When it dies I lose all power: lights, radio, engine, etc. It only stays off for one or two seconds. Everything comes back on and works fine except for the cruise control. It takes about 20-30 minutes for it to start working again. I have replaced the ignition switch, cleaned the battery cables, and checked the connections to the fuse box and computer. I am at a total loss, can anyone help.

Re: 96 power problem

just a wild thought , but have you checked the ground connection from battery to the frame?

Yeah, I checked the extra ground from the battery to the body. I also checked the one from the frame to the engine. There is a small wire on the positive cable with a fusible link in it. Anyone know where this wire goes?

Obvious, but bears mentioning.

Check the battery terminal lugs. I had to replace the side post lugs on my '96 because the bolt that holds it in was stripped and it would vibrate out. Identical symptoms.

A new lug set-up cured the problem.
