92 Bravada BAAAAAD Vibration!!!

Great to find this board!!!

I have a 1992 Bravada that has recently acquired a terrible vibration (almost like driving on a flat) and and metal clanging sound that I think is coming from the right front wheel. I took it to the shop for this problem thinking it was the CV joint. Both CV joints needed replacing (which they were), but the problem still persists. It starts after about 10 mph and gets worse until a little above 60 mph. It gets really bad during the deceleration process from around 40 mph on down to around 20 mph. My Haynes manual says (from what I can gather) that it could be a driveshaft problem or wheel bearings (also possibly U-joint, steering, other bearings, etc....). Without spending more money right away just to get it looked at again, does anyone have any input as to the possible cause?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

Thank you,

Andrew R. Pridgen

Sounds like a wheel bearing.....Does it get worse while turning one way and get better while turning the other?

Yeah....pretty much.

We have a hand cart/dolly at work that does the same thing. You turn it on way and its all sluggish, loud, and out of whack. If you turn it the other way and get it in just the right position it rolls fine. I KNOW that is the bearing, so I'm kind of trying to relate that to my truck.

That is the sign of a bad wheel bearing. A loud roar acompanied by a bad vibration, gets worse while turning one direction seems to clear up while turning the other.

If it is coming from the right front wheel that means while turning left it should get worse and go away while turning right. That is a very clear indication of a wheel bearing.

Just to be absolutely certain you should check the tierod ends and idler arm, but you exhibit the classic signs of a wheel bearing.

Thanks very much for the feedback. Any ideas on how much it costs to have replaced?

You can check the price of parts at:

http://www.partsamerica.com

http://www.autozone.com

http://www.napaonline.com

They are not that hard to replace yourself, as long as you have the tools and a little mechanical ability. If you need to you can buy a Haynes manual at an parts store for about $17, it will give you step by step instructions.
