Resetting the computer
Hey guys, I was wondering if there is some different way of resetting the computer in my truck. I have tried to reset it 3 times now and it has only actually reset once, you can tell by the way it runs so crappy on startup. I tried to reset it today , i disconnected the battery cables , both the positive and the negative and let it sit for about 4 hrs and when i reconnected them , it fired right up and ran fine which tells me that the computer did not reset. One time @ work i disconnected the neg cable and let it sit all day and when i reconnected it , it ran like crap for a couple of minutes till it relearned the fuel curve ect. What gives this time? Any ideas or suggestions. Thanks , Ken.

Re: Resetting the computer
Well the first time I wanted to reset it was after i installed the K&N Fipk and i read somewhere on here that after doing mods that it could not hurt to reset the computer. After resetting it that time the truck seemed to run alot better till i had the spark plug/wires problem after which the dealer reset the computer again. Now the truck seems to be running a little off and i wanted to see if it was going the help.

Re: Resetting the computer
I don't know it works, or if it could possibly damage the computer. That said, you can touch the battery cables together to reset the computer faster. I think it drains the small power reserve the computer has.

Re: Resetting the computer
I'll go do it now.... I've got an 86, and the "computer" has been dead for almost a year. I don't know what, if anything, that computer was for.

Re: Resetting the computer
These computersd have to be reset. buy the dealer with his scan tool but any runnning data is dumped somthing like every ten times you take it out and drive so just keep driving and leave your computer alone...Jj
