Hello
Need some ideas from experience with power window regulators. Weird but all 4 windows went out within 2 months. They will go up and down once in a while but 98 % of the time the motors are working and you have to manually push the windows up and down while holding the switch. Is there a way to rebuild this or do I have to replace the complete assembly ? Thanks Ed |

I know my 98 has what they call a "Torque on Demand" relay according to the schematics. I've never dealt with it before but it is located on the right of the interior fuse panel. It's tied in with the power windows relay. Maybe it's responsible for the little extra umpphh....the windows need to get travelling? Let us know how you make out.

I had both windows go out on my 1993 Explorer within a month. I found a place in Florida that sells a rebuild kit for $20 that contains a new nylon gear and the three nylon bearings. The bearings are typically what goes bad. It is a chore to change out the regulators unless you have done it before. There are three huge rivets that have to be ground off. You also have to have the assembly in the correct position to take the regulato off and on. I found a guy that did it for $80 labor (both windows).
That sure beat the $600 quote I got from the Dealer. Search Google for electric window parts and see if you can find teh company in Florida that sells the parts. They also sell complete regulators cheap. If you can't find them, EMAIL me and I will look for their numbers when I am at the office. |

Re: Need help with power Window regulators
I found the name and number:
South Florida Window Lift 954-763-9991 Complete regulator (motor and gear assembly) was $59. Repair kit was $20. |
