2001 Montana

Hi
I just Bought a 2001 Montana with no owners manual!!!
I just have a few questions?

1 Do all Montanas come with keyless entry?
2 What does the compresser do in the back?
3 I figuired out most of the buttons but there are 3 buttons on the ceiling close to the 3 onstar (3 black buttons in a row ) looks like a little house sign with a red light that comes on when you press either of the 3 bottons???
4 I noticed on the indicator where it shows you what dirrection and the temperature ouside that the one for average speed is not working is there a reset for it somewhere ??
Any info on the Montana would be great!
Thanks
Ryanjenna

Ryanjenna,

I believe you can get a PDF version of your owner's manual by registering at www.mygmlink.com (that's what I did for my 2001 Venture).

1 - I believe most GM vans come with keyless entry.
2 - The compressor may be for "load leveling". I believe you can also use it to fill tires, beach toys, etc (assuming you have the hose attachment).
3 - I think this is the "HomeLink" system that can be programmed to duplicate your garage door opener.
4 - Straight from my manual (I don't have this option):
Press and hold the MODE and E/M buttons for at least two seconds. The reset is acknowledged with the display showing all segments on briefly. A reset can only be done in AVG ECON, FUEL USED and AVG SPEED displays. AVG ECON, FUEL USED and AVG SPEED can be reset independently. Only the mode that is displayed will be reset.

Hope this helps. Take care,

Greg A.

I beleive that is to program the lock unlock options, like making the car look all doors when you take it out of park.
Your really going to need the owners manual becouse there are just to many things you are going to whant to find out about and it is going to get confusing trying to explain everything.
Oh that fuse i think is the accesory fuse found on the pass side compartment you will see when you open the pass side door, dont try it yet i want to double check that for you.

Did you get the PDF manual? It SHOULD be in there. Search for the phrase "Entering Programming Mode" and you should find it (press CTRL-F to start the search).

For my Venture it is fuse 47 (according to the manual). I did this a few months ago to program some replacement remotes I got from eBay.

One other note: Make sure you read ALL the instructions first before you get into programming mode. Sometimes you have to push a button or switch within a few seconds to make something work properly. When I first tried to program some option, I was reading the instructions too slowly and missed pushing the right button at the right time. The end result was a short "checklist" of what to do and at what time. It worked better after that.

Take care,

Greg A.

Re: 2001 Montana

There are owners manuals for sale on eBay. I have seen them start at $5.00 on up.This is a good place to get one. Another possible source would be your local salvage yards. In my area there are a few that have them for sale, pulled from vehicles on their lots. Try giving some of them a call to see if they sell used owners manuals or can get one for you.

If you went to the GM site (mygmlink) you will have to REGISTER to get the manual. Did you do that? When you do, you will have a user-name and password.

If you make it that far let me know, and I will let you know what to click on to find the manual (if it is there).

Take care,

Greg A.

Did you enter your VIN (Vehicle Identification Number)? You HAVE to do that to get access to the manual.

I think it might take a day or so to show up. If I remember correctly, I had to wait a little while.

Or you could try the other methods suggested earlier (such as eBay). I was lucky enough to get the manual with my Venture but I wanted the PDF version too, once I found out about it. It makes it easy to search for information.

Please let me know what happens in a day or two.

Take care,

Greg A.

Re: 2001 Montana

I have another question for ya ?
Today my engine light came on plugged in my code reader and came up with a PO305 error!
If I am right it is a misfire in the #5 cylinder??
I have a 96 ford winstar with 200000 kms on it and I had a PO304 on it replaced every thing fire related and still missed fired !! So I went to the forums and heard about the clogged egr ports .
So I took it apart and sure enough all but 1 port was plugged... unplugged them.. And working great ever since..Just wondring if the montanas were prone to clogged egr ports.
There is 72000 kms on it I will look at the plugs and wires today.

Re: 2001 Montana

Here are the 01 Montana remote programming instructions if you need them:

2001 + Venture / Silhouette / Montana Remote Programming

Important! Once the BCM enters program mode, all transmitters must be programmed at the same time. Any transmitters not learned at this time will be erased.

1) Remove the key from the ignition cylinder

2) Remove the BCM PRGRM fuse from the fuse panel

(The fuse panel is located to the right of the dash panel, just inside the passenger door. The owner's manual had a table listing the position of the BCM PRGRM fuse...as I recall there was at least one other fuse with "BCM" in its name, make sure you locate the correct fuse.)

3) Close all the doors

4) Close the liftgate/trunk

5) Turn the ign lock cylinder to the ACC. position

6) Turn the ignition lock cylinder to OFF, and then back to ACC within 1 second

7) Open and close any door
Achim will be heard when the system enters the BCM programming mode

IMPORTANT!
After 7 seconds a chime may be heard confirming successful synchronization. It is necessar to wait approximately 14 seconds for a second chime that will confirm successful programming.

(I heard the first chime at 7 seconds, but didn't hear any subsequent chimes. Remote still worked, though.)

8) Press and hold the transmitter LOCK and UNLOCK buttons simultaneously for 14 seconds

9) Repeat the previous step on each additional transmitter to be programmed.

10) Remove the ignition key from the ignition cylinder

11) Install the BCM PRGRM fuse back into the fuse panel.

Good luck!
