rust colored specks on finish
My '97 Runner (desert dune color) develops tiny pin head sized blemishes on the painted finish during the winter that look like tiny rust spots. However, in spring when I wax the car, these blemishes are easily removed. Anyone else experience this with a light colored 4runner? Is this rust on top of the clear coat?

This is fairly normal on light colored paint jobs. The metals in the air sit on top of the clear coat and make a small rust spot. As you have noticed they are easily removed. Just don't let it sit too long on the clear coat as it can eventually eat through the clear coat. Just maintain the paint with a good waxing as needed. Good luck!

Somewhere in the truck finish's history someone was using a metal grinder, the hot specks of steel embedded in the paint, good advice aside of repainting has already been given:
