Lightbulb What the new Thunderbird should have been

Well, I'm probably not going to make any new friends with this post, but here goes.

I have never really liked the new T-bird, it's to cute, and what happen to the rear end anyway?

Ford didn't want the Thunderbird to compete with the Mustang, but I never thought it did. The 'stang was always a sprinter and the Bird, well it just flew.

I think they should have made a new Bird and used the engine, brakes, etc. of the new Ford GT (550 HP SC). I know they would be selling a lot more of them, then the two for tea-bird and the GT put together.

What do you think?

Re: What the new Thunderbird should have been

What you guys are forgetting is the fact that it is an "old school" look. Do a search on older tbirds, and voila....there ya go.

10 years from now, they'll make tbirds that look like the 89-97 era.....I HOPE..

Me...i think the new tbirds look like dogshit. I'm not into that look.

Question Re: What the new Thunderbird should have been

I was thinking of a Thunderbird that would compete with the likes of the Marauder or Impala SS.

Yes, I new they were going for the retro look, I saw one going down the road the other day with the port hole side windows, that wasn't bad. Maybe I just don't like pastels?

But, what if you could buy a 2005 Thunderbird SC with:

Seating for 4 people
All seats will require head rests (so their necks don't snap off when you hit second)
Rear-wheel drive

DOHC, 4 valves per cylinder, supercharged V-8 w/intercooler
5.4L All Aluminum engine
Horsepower @ RPM: 550@6,500
Torque @ RPM (lb ft): 500@3,750
Fuel injection-multi-port, dual injectors per cylinder, w/twin bore throttle body
front and rear independent unequal length Control arms
14.0F, 13.2R Brembo 4 piston calipers, with four-channel ABS
6-speed Transmission

I could go on, but I am starting to cry....

Re: What the new Thunderbird should have been

Keep in mind the Tbird was originally a 2 seater and about 160hp.

Re: What the new Thunderbird should have been

they tryed something and i must say i was proud of the retro look.i think what they forgot to calulate is who is realy going to by one maybe people w/55-57 bird and wanted to by a new style. That was yesterdays old school roadster that in 55-57 was great and competed w/ the vette.they both came from european touring ideals. they lead to american classic hotrods as we know them today.the problem is ford tryed bring somthing back that has evolved and the taste for the car is a latemod roadster that if i had the money i would by one for my wife so i could drive it when we go out w/ her.but when im by myself i want to drive something w/ more muscle like my 88'T-Bird. i think ford and chevy did it right in the 80s&early 90s w/ stang & the camaro-and the monte & the T-Bird.they wher not as vast as the choces we had 30 plus years back.but i liked them some looked for the smaller sporty camaros and stangs, and some wanted somthing w/ more class, alittle biggerand just as sporty our t-birds and montes.now i think ford should have did somthing like that look how the new montes are selling cant tell me ford wouldnt sell them.i still would not by one yet cause the monte are front wheel drived thoe there coming w small V8s this year i here in the future monti and impallas are going rear wheel.well then if ford does it like that i would do everything in my power to bye one(more OT)they can start by turn one of there cars into a 2dr coupe and sporting it out like the taurus(at least its a start)

Well, I saw a black one, and a red one that I think had some SVT mods on it, and they still looked like shit. I was at the dealership getting a schematic, and there were two older people looking at the bird. I've yet to see a younger person, driving one .
