Question 22R Engine swap What years interchange

I have a 1987 Toyota 4x4 Ext. Cab, 5 speed transmission with a carburated 22R engine, the block has a hole in the side, will a complete 22R carburated engine from a 1982 2wd pickup bolt in its place? what about emission controls or computer stuff between engines. I will have the complete 1982 truck that is suppling the engine. Thank You

Re: 22R Engine swap What years interchange

i just did the same thing today .use every thing from 82 like coil and distributer . the pickup coil is in the dist on that so one wire will run it and that plug plugs right in at coil on fenderwell.should be easy if both are carbed. if 87 is efi pump must be removed in tank.can give more details.

The 22R block is the same from start to finish, minus the RTE with had two holes drilled to supply oil for the turbo.
