sticky throttle/gas pedal
My 97 Maxima recently developed a sticky gas pedal. It sticks at first then frees up if I push hard enough with my foot. It's only sticky at the start of pedal travel, and is smooth after that. I did a quick inspection of the throttle cable but didn't see anything that might bind it. Does anyone have a suggestion on what to check? Thanks in advance.

Look hard at the rubber bits near TB, in the cable shroud ends: wire might stick theres if loose bits. At least dangerous if rubber bits falls off and jams. Thread self vulcanizing rubbertape around that & lithium -lubricate the wire. After lubrication wipe excess grease off. Lubricate also cabin end. For test purposes disconnect cruise ctrl cable.

spray throttle body and plate cleaner (you can buy any auto store) and w/ a brush remove any black carbon. if you have air pressured, apply to evaporized the cleaner and avoid the vehicle to be flooded or backfires. otherwise let it sit for 5 minutes. |
