Re: need help with oil leak

Usually the front oil seal is changed when the timing belts are changed. So you need a manual and tools to do the job. At the same time consider changing the water pump if you have more then 50K since it was changed last. Same for the timing belts. It is not the easiest job and special procedures must be followed..

Re: need help with oil leak

Quite a few of those came into the shop with an oil pump seal leaking under the cover. Blows a lot of oil when it happens, but is fairly easy to fix. Much easier than a main seal. Common problem on those, for some reason.

Re: need help with oil leak

The oil pump is inside the timing belt cover on the left side of the car. If the oil pump or oil pump gasket is leaking you will see oil coming out of the weep hole at the bottom of the timing belt cover. If the water pump is leaking you will see coolant at the same place. If the valve cover gasket is leaking, you will see oil leaking down the back of engine near the intake manifold and definitely at the ends where the camshaft enters the cover.

When these blow, there is oil literally running out of the cover when the motor is running. It's a mess.
