hot air intake.
i have a hot air intake. the one that just goes in place of the stock air box. is there any way i can make that a cold air intake???? or what are some good suggestions? thanks

What do you mean? Do you have an open cone setup? If you have a box that draws air from behind the headlight/fenderwell, then you have a cold air intake.

you could build a box for it possibly, to shield the cone from the engine heat and draw from behind the headlight and the fender...i've considered doing this myself using stuff from a hardware store but i just haven't had the time to put into it.

I've got a hot air (warm air intake - WAI) setup on my Grand Am. I like it better then a CAI due to it's better off the line response, but I succesfully routed 2 lines, one from the wheel well, and one from the front air damn up to the filter. They are against the filter, so they help to suck in colder air when I get up to speed. So mine's kind of a WAI/CAI hybrid setup. I would reccomend running cold air lines to your cone filter - I noticed a little bit of a difference on the top end.

I was just going to say hello to wagon and Big-L. BUT, I have to ask why you think that set up is better then a cold air box? Cold air box is enclosed, getting air from the outside. Yours is still sucking hot air from under the hood. OH WELL.
Larry, Your old enough (ha ha) to remember the "ice buckets" from the 60's. Where they had a coil in a "bucket". And they would fill it ice, to keep the gas cooler. Maybe still a good thought. How long do you think the gas will last down here? ![]() Quote:

yeah. just make one yourself. You already have the filter(the main part) For mine i went down to lowes and picked up some insilation (fire retardant kind with a silver look) and some aluminum tape and just constructed a boc around the cone that meshed up around the holes behind the headlight and the fenderwell. Made a good difference over my hot air open cone. It was easy and quick to do to boot.

Sorry,but our GP's are different then the GA's and we dont have a long intake tube,plus at the strip we can remove the headlight for increased air flow

the only real advantage to a "WAI" (i think it is actualy called a SRI for short ram intake, but thats not a term ive heard too often so i dont know) is that the pipe is shorter so there is less hesitation before the air gets to the engine. In grand prixs though the cool air setups such as the MSP or Wizaired are already so close to the cool air that they use, that it really doesnt make a difference. In any case, warmer air is much less dense than cold air which means tha there are a lot more oxygen molecules in a given amount of cold air than in warm, more oxygen can burn more gas, which brings more power.
