Replacing 97 Cav's Carpet

Hello all,

Not sure if anyone here has done it yet, but after cleaning my interior I noticed how crappy my carpet looks and actually thought about replacing it.

Prices from several online sources list them for $99-$150 , so its not an expensive item.
Heres a link to one source
http://www.stockinteriors.com/item.a...d=5&ModelId=72

Anyone know whats involved in replacing the carpet. Is it worth doing it myself or should I just bring it to a professional?

Thanks again,

Re: Replacing 97 Cav's Carpet

Frank, if you want to it auto-way, you'll have to pull out seats and floor consoles first. Then, youll' have to go at it very much like re-doing carpeting in a house, except using adhesive sprays and tape instead of tack-strips. The problem you'll face is in the bends and humps around the front and behind the front seats, get those wrong laying the carpet down, and ya facing major frustration. If you have the time and weather, it isn't that hard to do, but it is involved, ya have to pull all the seats OUT and then the floor console, keep track of bolts and rails, etc etc. Once ya start ripping out the old carpet, expect to get a heat-gun to loosen the adhesive so ya don't get patches of carpeting stuck on the boards. And I haven't even started on removing the lower trim pieces yet. I guess what I am saying, is it not a one-day project, requires a few tools not usually avail. to the DIY'er, and requires a lot of interior "ripping".

Re: Replacing 97 Cav's Carpet

If you are lookin at that site for a pre moulded carpet , all you do is remove the seats and the center console, the kickpanels, lower seatbelt bolts and voila the carpet should come out. The carpet is not adhered to the floor it is layed in there and there should be no need to us adhesive spray cuz moulded carpets are oem replacement and its all set and ready to go
