Keyless remote programming for 2001 Jetta

PLEASE if any one can tell me how to program the remote. The batterys had run down for a long time when I replaced them it did not work how could I reprogam the remote?

There are instructions in the handbook that comes with the car section3.1 page 37 here is what it says

insert the master key into the ignition lock and switch on the ignition (do not turn on engine)

Lock the vehicle from the outside manually using the second key

press button a or button c on the remote control one time and then wait at least 2 seconds

press either button once again one more time

switch off the ignition and remove the key from the igntion lock

the manual programming procedure is complete the remote control is functional again

also you have only 30 seconds to perform steps 2 through 4
