Unhappy 4wd

HELP, I Have a 2001 Jimmy with auto 4wd Sys: Auto , 4hi, 2hi, n, 4lo,.the 4hi or 4auto button light blinks but won't go in to gear ,. I alredy changed the encoder motor: no help. The dealer tried the push button switch: no help. The dealer tried a new control module: no help.

Now the dealer wants to change the front axle switch & the front axle solonoid & the control module $800.00.

I can find the switch, should be easy and about 20.00 for part online. but I can't find the solonoid. I'm going to try the little parts first scince the module did'nt change anything for the dealer.

So does anyboby Know where the solonoid is ? The switch is on the r/h side of the axle housing near a cable .

Re: 4wd

Do you have 4 matching tires? I've heard mismatched sizes/tread-depth of tires front -vs- rear can affect the 4wd system from engaging properly. I don't know the details of this problem though, so don't hold me to it.

4wd

I had this problem with my 96 jimmy. Disconnect the battery for half an hour, this will reset the switch and computer allowing your 4hi to work properly. It worked for me hopefully it works for you.
