Question 1997 v6 CAMARO

Hi all. I have a problem with my camaro.its a 1997 v6 with a manual 5-speed transmission. 3800 series engine.ok here goes..when i start the car sometimes it i haft to turn key till i hear the fuel pump then tunr key off then repeat to actually start my car! and now when i am driving lets say second, third or even fourth gear, my car seems to hesitate when i get on the gas. it is really annoying and i need help narrowing it down to what it might be?? i took it to goodyear and they said that (for the hard starting part) that im not getting good pressure for fuel, that it just goes back to the tank??? and that it could be an injector??? they said for me to take it to a chevy dealer and they can tell me whats wrong. well i dont have another 100 bucks to just give away so if any1 can give me some insite i really appreciate it alot. I love my car and i just want it to run smooth..oh, what happens if the cat is going bad because i am hearing this rattleing noise sometimes when i take off in 1st gear or backing in reverse. I havent had any service lights come on,and im going to get my car scanned for codes tomorrow.i hope the scanning is free. THANKS ALL.

Most places (except dealers) will do the scan for free.

Have you replaced the fuel filter lately? That will cause all of what you describe (except for the rattling)

For the cat...Is it a bolt on? If it is, unbolt it and turn it over, end over end and see if anything falls out of it. It may be that the monolithic brick inside is coming apart and rattling around. If it does dump stuff out you can put the cat back on the car but start saving up for a new one, you'll need it. The cats cost around $100 and Summit usually sells direct bolt on replacements.

Re: 1997 v6 CAMARO

Start with the fuel filter for the starting problems, but def. get the codes scanned.

As for the cat, that rattling sound could be your muffler, I just changed mine out mainly for that reason. On the 97s (mine atleast) the cat is welded onto the y-pipe, most people say the easiest way to check is by tapping on it and seeing if you hear rattling. Also if you feel your performance going downhill then it's prbaby the cat. As far as replacements, I got a brand new magnaflow universal cat for $53 on ebay so 100 is probably a little more than you'd be paying.

Take it to dealer or autozone (Auto zone requires 184$ deposit but you'll get it back when you return the OBD II )

Each one could be Diff RS, the one I went to required the deposit, but they put it back into my account same day. Didn't lose a penny. And they said they wouldn't do it for lawsuit kinda stuff. I understand it in these days

Re: 1997 v6 CAMARO

The one I went to I called to confirm it's for free which I believe is on their website, I went there and the guy tried to charge me, and I told him straight up Autozone does it for free. You have to know your shit before you go in so they don't try to hassle you
