power steering pump

Power steering on 2002 grand am se doesn't work. The car has the 4 cyl. engine and isn't low on fluid.

First, has anyone had problems of this sort with these cars before?
Also, it has a gear driven power steering pump, are any special tools required to remove the pump if it is bad?

Re: power steering pump

Do you check all hose's to make sure nothing was crimped?. I had a problem like your when I replace the engine in my formula I kept putting in power steering pumps thinking they all 3 must not be working but it ended up being a hose the was crimped and not flowing the fluid to build power support but no you should not require any special tools from what I have heard. Your best bet though would be to get yourself a service manual. They always provide usefull info for jobs like that. Good Luck.
