Re: Savannah River Site Protest

Its the nations only producer of Trituim, a key element in the prodcution/updating of nuclear weapons. It has also known to be the most radioactive spot in the world (excluding russian sites that were never measured). Theres also been shipping of plutonium from Colorado to South Carolina to the Savannah River Site, thats a highly deadly substances driving through your back yard. Things of this nature are what im against. Dont get me wrong im not a tree hugging hippie hell bent on turning the earth back to where we live in the woods but some of the things that happen in this place are against what I believe to be right.

Just the manufacture of that substance and the shipping across half the US is stupid. (Not to mention the hypocrisy of the US government in continuing to manufacture nuclear weapons yet telling other countries they can't have any.....it's like the bullies in 8th grade)

hmmm I did read that somewhere else that there are 18 wheelers transporting the waste from the nuclear plants right through major metroplitan centres. Thats quite disturbing.

Actually as far as I'm aware tritium is currently being used to maintain Hydrogen bombs, not to make new ones. Anmd as far as shipping goes, they arent going to stop producing tritium so would you rather them airlift it? In trucks at least the containers of plutonium are safe from car accidents where as a helicopter crash is more likely to expose the substance.

Re: Savannah River Site Protest

They are making new nuclear weapons. Also because of tridium's short half life we should just let the nukes we have wear out everything they have in them and get rid of them. There is less of a chance of a plane with it crashing compared to a truck.
The military is tossing around ideas about nuclear weapons being used in combat in a closer battle, like a grenade (im not positive about what kind of weapon it is I just know that it will be used by the average combat soldier.

I would like to see a nuke stating that they are creating new nukes, as I know for a fact that a great number of americas nukes are being dissabled.

Re: Savannah River Site Protest

Article talks of development but not actually manufacturing. Ive heard of the mininukes, however to my knowledge they have not yet been manufactured.
