Cryo2

Has anybody used this product? I'm interested to see if it works good. I know its not a ricer product because it actually won the SEMA BEST NEW PERORMANCE PRODUCT 2003.....

http://cryo2.com/products.asp?m=sc&cid=1

The CryOČ is a revolutionary new, award wining product designed to reduce the temperature of the air/fuel intake charge thus creating power.

Through the science of aerodynamics and cryogenics, Design Engineering has developed a system to harness the cryogenic properties of liquid CoČ to lower the air/fuel intake charge by up to 60%.

Re: Cryo2

It appears to be almost the same thing as any water/alcohol injection kit out there already. I don't see why it won an award at SEMA since water/alcohol injection has been around for such a long time. Maybe I'm missing something about this "new" product?

EDIT>>> Nevermind, it appears to just be a fancy intercooler sprayer. Not worth the time or money!

Re: Cryo2

well it doesnt inject anything into the motor, thus it is VERY safe and doesnt harm your engine. It has a kit when installed you can buy mods to it. Like an intercooler bar that emits c02 bursts onto your intercooler at any given time and cools the air by 50% or higher, also a fuel bar and air intake cooler which cools your fuel and cools the air entering the intake. Plus the price for C02 is so cheap that it makes this product great. I read on other forums over the night that people who have tested it Noticed around a 30whp increase and they showed their dynos to prove it. Everywhere I've read everybody has nothing but good things to say about this so I wanted to see if anybody on this forum has used it and what they think.

I also found that every 20 degrees the air entering an engine is cooled you will get a 1% increase in performance, which just proves that yes this does work.

Re: Cryo2

I'm not saying it doesn't work, I'm just saying that this has been around for a while now and is not worth the money, IMO. If you AutoX or something like that where you go WOT almost constantly for long periods of time, then yes this would be a good investment. But for a 1/4 mile of track? I highly doubt this will help much, if any at all.

Would I waste my money on this? Nope. There MAY be minimal gains to be found with something like this, but I'd rather spend that money elsewhere (like on a water injection kit that WILL actually do what this claims to do, but do it MUCH better).

Re: Cryo2

illegal in autocross though

also, this CO2 may not be released into the intake charge, but its certainly released near it and some is bound to get into the intake, throwing the A/F ratio all out of whack

Re: Cryo2

the co2 is stored in a bulb type thing that is fitted inside the intake, the bulb is cooled from the co2 and the air is cooled as it passes the bulb, no co2 would leak into the intake.

Re: Cryo2

get a $250 water injection kit and save up for the zex wet kit =) no need for anything else.

that c02 is popular with fmic's. i've seen a couple people use them. i dont really like them, everyone mistakes them for nitrous. i think it was more for their ego then the car

You might have seen this already but i too had thought about cryo2 and i dont like it because its a short burst of only a little bit of power, and that co2 dont last 4ever you gotta fill it up all the time even just for normal use. Also this fact made me completley against cryo2, i went to this cryo2 site that had stopped selling their intercooler sprayers, come to find out using the co2 to spray the intercooler caused excess co2 to enter the intake, causimg the engine too ingest co2 (not good). Co2 dispells oxygen therfore harming your engine and decreasing performance. just my opinion, peace.

Re: Cryo2

well the positive of it is co2 is cheap. $.80 a pound so not a big deal. I dont think youde go through it that much and for a 30whp boost i think the price is worth it. I trust SEMA and they gave it the best of the year. idk maybe ill get it and give u guys a review, since it seems everybody on here has an opinion but hasnt tried it yet

Re: Cryo2

This isn't a new concept, but I wouldn't buy it because I don't think it would cool the air at all. I don't believe that because air passes through something cold, it becomes cold. The air is moving so fast that it doesn't take on much temperature from the pipe. Take for example the people who remove the coolant lines from their TB. They say it makes the TB cooler and that should make the air cooler. A lot of people don't buy that because the air is only inside the TB for 0.001 seconds, it's not going to affect much.

Anyway, water injection is extremely safe and more effective than a cold intake pipe any day. Or propane, or alcohol, or nitrous.

Re: Cryo2

ok i know a guy that runs the cryo stuff and it works really well. what it does is cool the air passing through the intercooler. it's good for those really hot days at the tracks because with the push of a button you can have your intake air as cold as the air on a 25 degree day which is actually an increase in performance. you don't use it for just daily driving and stuff like that, it's for when you "need" that cold air on a hot day, like at the track or something. if you need it for performance at the track or something, buy it, if you're gonna buy it because it might be an all-time upgrade, it's not worth it.

it's in a way like nitrous because it's "sprayed" in the intake air, but it actually helps your engine with colder air, not harms it
colder air=more performance

Re: Cryo2

i thought people said it wasn't sprayed into the engine? By the way, nitrous cools and does not harm an engine.

Re: Cryo2

If you sprayed co2 into your engine, it would die. The ONLY way I could see how this would be beneficial is if you used it only on extremely hot days at the track when running lots of 1/4 mile runs. Otherwise, the money would be WELL spent on a water injection kit, which would be beneficial anytime you raced.

Re: Cryo2

the cryo doesn't get sprayed into the engine, it gets sprayed somewhere into the intercooler, causing the air temperature inside the intercooler to drop drastically. it wouldn't be very cost effective to have on daily, but if you race at the track alot, it would be a nice little performance enhancer.

it's made to cool intake air, which in turn produces more power, it doesn't directly produce more power like nitrous does.

Ok, lets say this product does cool the air very slightly (and I guarantee it won't be too significant). How much are you willing to pay for that possible tiny increase in performance that you really aren't even sure is going to be there? Look into a water/alcohol injection kit. They run ~$250 depending on where you get the parts/kit. That's $100 less than this silly Cryo2, and you KNOW FOR A FACT that it will work 10X better than any intercooler sprayer ever will.

It's all up to you. If you want to waste $373 (and thats just for a tank and the basic installation kit ) on this Cryo2 thing, then go ahead. I'm simply trying let you know that there are many other proven things out there that are cheaper and will without a doubt do a better job at cooling than this "great new super powerful intercooler sprayer".
