Hello all, I brought this Kit recently and was thinking about leaving it in the box although the previous owner has already begun the model (badly too unfortunately) so decided there is no point in leaving it in a box and it should be built and displayed. The kit is the original ESCI release so its quite old and the moulding is quite poor unfortunately.
The kit has loads of potential though. I am beginning to sand down and do a little work on the rough areas now, what I am after is anyone who has made one of the ESCI Escorts, if they could post some pics for me as reference and so on, would be great or if anyone has photos of the EatonYale car would also be great. Regards Wrcfan |

Re: Progress build: EatonYale Hannau Mikkola RS Escort
This one is being re-released in this livery too. Here are some shots of a completed model on a german hobby store website.

Re: Progress build: EatonYale Hannau Mikkola RS Escort
Just finished studying today so that means the models are being dragged out and continued with, apologies for the lack of progress on this thread.
Heres a photo taken (sorry about quality) of the body cleaned up, hae made some photo etch belts to go with the car. next step is to begin on detailing of the cockpit. Found a few photos that are of the original works Escorts so will go by these. Will post more photos in next couple of days. Regards WRCfan

Re: Progress build: EatonYale Hannau Mikkola RS Escort
Good luck with the Escort, please keep us posted on your progress.
I'm looking forward to getting hold of one of the reissues. Did you etch the PE yourself? |

Gidday!
I brought a photo etch kit in Japan and just built the belts up. They have been great although at times they have taken some time to build up. All in all it just makes the rally car look that much better. regards WRCfan |

A great reference is The Works Escorts by Graham Robson - available on Amazon:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/...456917-2921413 Also Ford do/did a manual "How To Prepare The Escort For Rallying" which is superb for how the Works cars were ACTUALLY built. Unfortunately this is REALLY hard to get hold of. I built this model with the DMC Cossack decals, it's a b1tch of a model with fit problems etc, and look out for the front track (distance between the front wheels) - it's hopeless. The rear suspension is completely wrong too - the kit is a standard Mk2 RS set-up whereas all the Mk2 Works cars had a multi-link system, sometimes four longtitudinal links with a Panhard rod, sometimes a four-link with Watts linkage, sometimes with leaf springs and sometimes without, it really depends on the car and the year! The engine is nice though and with a bit of detailing looks great. |

Re: Progress build: EatonYale Hannau Mikkola RS Escort
A little more work has been done on the Escort, I am chopping the back springs a little bit to make the bum of the Escort sit low looking more like a tarmac spec. Will leave front suspension as is for now, unfortunately only being 21 i did not have a chance to see these works cars in real, could someone pleas advise me on the height of front suspension on the works Escorts please (leave as is or lower?)
Cockpit will be started on tonight, if anyone can help me out with any photos of the works Escorts interior i would be most grateful, otherwise I will be using my own RS1800 rally car for the model's interior. Heres a couple of photos of the progress (not much but a small amount) ![]() ![]() Thanks to ImageShack for Free Image Hosting |

The ride-height on this model is fairly bang-on. Remember that rally cars of the 70s era rarely sat ultra-low as they didn't want to be dragging on the road surface too much for such a long time (4-5 day events and 40+ stages), also aerodynamics were not nearly so much of an issue, whereas now the latest WRC cars sit very low on tarmac to make the aero work properly. They are also much more sophisticated suspension-wise, and don't have to last as long (2.5-3 days, 18 stages) from a wear-to-the-chassis point of view.
I'll try and find my "How To Prepare..." tonight and scan a couple of pictures of a genuine 1970s interior. |

I have scanned a photo of a Works Escort interior
- if you PM me I can send it to you "zipped" but it's too large (1.4Mb) to post here!

Re: Progress build: EatonYale Hannau Mikkola RS Escort
A little bit of progress coming along.
Put the seats into the car and the rollcage was positioned, finally beginning to look like a rally car now. Have got some cockpit shots coming (thank you generationx!!!!!) and will begin work on that. Nothing much happening although all beginning to come together now. Enjoy, WRCfan ![]()

Re: Progress build: EatonYale Hannau Mikkola RS Escort
A couple more progress photos, begun the dashboard and other remaining interior tonight, also finished the majority of the decals to be put on the car.
The decals are the original release set so they are reasonably old and very brittle!!! Unfortunately "Hannu" is now "Hann" Mikkola but otherwise no real issues with them. I cant seem to get the right pigment of the Blue with my Fuji Finepix so if anything looks off colour its just the camera / lighting combo. One question I have is regarding the mudflaps the RS1800's run, does anyone know whether they are meant to be positioned right behind the rear wheels or were the old works rally car's mudflaps positioned right at the back of the car? I have seen photos of both positions. If anyone could help out with this query it would be great! Any hints, tips, feedback would be cool too! Enjoy, WRCfan ![]() ![]()

From the photo reference in The Works Escorts, all Mk2 Works cars had the rear mudflaps mounted around halfway along the panel between the rear wheelarch and the rear bumper.
Generally no front mudflaps. |
