I have a 1992 7.4 litter 4x4.I do another drive where I have to go from 5000 feet to over 8,000 feet. With out fail the car will over heat at the top of the climb. I have one of those radiators with three radiators in one. Transmission, Oil, and air. Then it has the A/C condenser on the frount of that and that has it's own fan.

What can I do to cool that motor. Is there a special anifreeze or another after market cooler I can put in.

By the way the radiator is brand new because on a previous trip the radiator ruptured. The cost about $1400 new here from the dealer. Owch. But I found one for around $500 But it doesn't fit exactely into the hole. But you know I made it fit. But the engine still overheated and that is just me in the car. I want to be able to carry 8 people and all there climbing gear.

Also the engine has headers which I believe contributes to the high temperature of the engine.

Make sure the radiator and condensor fins are clean and free of bugs. Have you mounted anything that will restrict air flow thru the radiator?

Is the water pump original? Aftermarket pumps can flow more (20-30 %) coolant that can really help keep the engine cooler. Water pump impellars do wear and reduce the performance of the pump.

A lower temp thermostat (will require reprogramming so that you will not damage the engine).

Aftermarket duel electric fans can pull more air and not take any load from the engine.

Not sure how well additives like Water Wetter work (they claim to lower the temp 20 degrees).

Forgot to mention fan clutch. You don't mention how many miles on your truck; however, they also wear out. The electric fans are expensive, so if you don't go with them, at least replace the fan clutch.

The truck as 120,000 miles on it and I will bet the fan clutch has never been replaced.

No nothing is restricting the flow of air. The radiator is brand new and when I was filling it up I could see a good stream of water coming back into the the radiator. It looks like the water pump is new.

There is already one one electric fan on the frount of the a/c condenser. I will try putting one on the other side of the radiator. That sounds like the easiest thing todo right now.
