My 2002 explorer (v8) wont idle. I've replaced the spark plugs and cleaned the fuel injectors. I know that I need to replace my EGR valve, could this have something to do with it? If anyone has a sugestion it would be appreciated. It used to not idle for a while and then I would hear something like a compressor turning on then it would idle again. Any ideas?

I have a 98. would start all right and run as long as I had my foot into the gas a little. Let the gas off and the engine would stall. That it? Remove your IAC Valve and check it or replace it. They are known for sticking(may just need a good cleaning most likely). If voltage not present at connector when in run probably pcm issue(not likely). Motor inside IAC may be bad. If voltage present and verified plunger isn't sticking, watch plunger while ignition is put in run. should move.
Easy 15-20 minute job |

Re: 2002 Won"t Idle
Definately sounds like an Intake Air Control (IAC) valve. Good Luck

Re: 2002 Won"t Idle
Same symptoms.
None of the suggestions above worked...until I replaced my Intake (manifold) Gaskets. Trust me on this. Took 3 months to finally narrow it down from the half-dozen or so parts mentioned, to include a spankin'new Idle Air Contol unit and EGR. I wish I'd seen this posted a LOT sooner. |
