Oil smell

daughter's 3.8 " smell's of burnt oil " sometime's" is there a normal thing to check for on these ????? Oh it is in the car with the heat and or defrost on,,, the rad. fan cycling is one thing i have thought of

It just might be dripping oil on the back exaust manifold where you can't see it,not that uncommon,it doesn't take too much and is burnt away quickly.

That would work but also look for oil leaking from the upper manifold and working its way along the valve cover and making you think its a valve cover gasket. Good Luck

AUTO, you are correct , intake leak she is going to be getting her tax check soon so let me know best/easiest fix and other things to check/replace etc. while i'm working on it. Also what is the best book on that engine ??? i'd like to not have to drop$$$$ on a factory book. Thanks now

I have two Olds a 95?98 and both have a slight seepage,I wish I could tell you exactly what's involved,but have not had the pleasure of doing one myself but if you check through the Olds,Buick,Pontiac 3.8 v6 forums you'll find what your looking for.I have asked about a Ken-Co kit on the forum but have no response as to where to purchase one or whats in the the kit. Good Luck
