Unhappy Starter problem

When I did my swap, I bought a brand new starter. Now it picks when it wants to start or not. Sometimes it cranks right up, other times, it just goes "click" Then if I push start it, after that it will start up fine the rest of the day.

Even today it did it at wal-mart, I let it roll back about 6 in then released the clutch, then tried to start it and it worked.

Seems like the starter is sticking.

Should I get a new starter or is there a relay or something that can be replaced? Thx

Re: Starter problem

There is a relay right above the hood release, but I doubt that's the problem.

Re: Starter problem

I should just get another starter then huh?

The only bad thing is I went to both of our local auto parts stores where I get my odds and ends, and they can't find anywhere on file where I bought a starter and I can't find my receipt!

Re: Starter problem

yeah, sounds like the starter is bad. Is it a brand new one? I doubt it's the relay because if that went bad then it wouldn't start with the starter at all

Re: Starter problem

yeah, i have a feeling some of the "new" stuff is just "remanufactured" but they don't tell you

Same problem

The car I currently have has the same problem, however my car has been through 3 or 4 starters. I was told its possibly a eventual defect with the ignition switch....

if it still looks new and has there name on it or there brand name or what ever then they SHOULD warranty it, u can tell if its new, old, barely used etc

1 year old will start to get surface rust on it usually, if not then buy a new one, take urs off, return it and say its the wrong one.... or it wasnt the problem, we get that all the time

Re: Starter problem

if they wont return it all together, it will be cheaper for you to get it rebuilt, and its just about as good as a brand new one.

Re: Starter problem

Ok, well I replaced the starter (they exchanged it for me) and the mother fucker does the same thing.

So where should I start next? That relay, the big black box is what your talking about right?

Then it might be my ignition!?

Please help this is getting crazy, I can't hardly get around anymore.

couple things to check would be:
-is the starter securely gounded?(try adding a ground, hard to explain why)
-clutch safety switch working properly?
-voltage drop to the starter
-all connections good and no corrosion
-ign switch

your gonna have to track this one down, sounds like a tuffy but you can do it.
