1996 jetta code reset

I have a 1996 Jetta and the timing belt stripped .In diagnosing the problem I wound up causing the check engine light to come on.I replaced the belt the car runs excellent, but the codes remain.I went to Autozone they read the codes and they conicide with the sensor wires I osulled when diagnosing the problem, but he would not reset them for me.Isthere any way to reset them without a scanner.
