95 Twin Cam Trans wont shift warm
1995 4 door twin cam trans stop shifting when warms up for two minutes. Has codes 22 23 24 14, Cleared codes and all came back but 14. With scanner hooked up the computer is calling for low gear only all the time. No other engine codes. Supposedly had used transmission instally awhile ago. Dont know if it worked afterward or not. All fout gears are there in the morning and fluid is red. Shifts are a little sloppy. Has any one seen this?

hard to say, but i'm going to guess a loose input shaft nut, search for it on this forum - saturnfans.com
other possibltys are a wiring problem or the wrong trans was swaped in.

the PCM controls the transmission. the PCM watches the input and output speed of the trans, and the gear ratios are programed into the PCM's memory, if the speeds don't match the expected gear ratios, the PCM sets a code and goes into a "limp home" mode where only one gear is availible(second gear most of the time) as far as i know the only two things that will give an incorrect gear ratio, someone swaping in the wrong trans or a loose input shaft nut.

turns out this is a 94 transmission. Are all the resistances the same as a 95 as to the actuators?

that i don't know. also, if a transmission from a SOHC engine was swaped in, it could very easily cause these problem. if the computer detects different gear ratios then its programed to expect. if will not use that gear and set a "no xxx gear" the more and more i think about it, that sounds alot like the problem you are having. see if you can find out the model of the donor car, or search the housing, some where it should be stamped MP6 or MP7. the MP6 is for SOHC, the MP7 is for DOHC

the only thing that I am wondering about is if the problem is bad gear ratios, why does it only throw the code when it is warm? And then there is the fact that it is sticking in first after it is warm. That sounds to me like a valve body problem. I could be wrong, but I know that Saturn autos tend to have the gear selector pin (I don't know what the actual term for it is called) stick, and this could be explained by it only happening when it gets too warm.
Just a thought, and let me know what you think.

Called saturn today and they say all the acuators are the same from 92 to 01 anyway.

all i can say from that VIN is that it is a 94, but you knew that. i'm guessing the PCM needs some time to check the gear raitos.

Gonna agree with Siera on this one and call it a loose input shaft nut. You can access this easily by pulling the end cover off (left side of car). Check the torque specs and verify if it is tight enough. I have seen a number of these work themselves loose. If the nut is too loose, you have to replace it, don't just retorque it...it will come loose again.
I have seen a few cars come in with the wrong tranny installed (SL1 tranny in an SL2)...they usually shift horribly from the start and set into "limp home mode". Asd soon as you put it in gear the computer immediately freaks out because the ratios are wrong...not after warming up.

thanks for the input DM rok, i knew the wrong tranmission is a possibilty, but i lack the infield experince to know exactly what would happen. i suppost checking the input nut torque would be easier then counting gear raitos. note that you will need a special socket, its a thin wall 12-point 23 MM i beleave. then a chain wench to keep the shafts from spining when tightening. and although the nut can be reused, it shouldn't. its a one-time use innerference nut. reusing it will increase the chance of it coming loose again. i *think* the torque spec is 111ft-lb
