Just bought Neon

I just bought a 96' Plymouth Neon. Its the coupe 5 speed SOHC 2.0L 16 valve engine, base model. Runs excellent. Well im into racing and all that good stuff, so can anyone think of some performance parts for cheap for the moment i dont wanna dump too much into it. Thanks, also can any one put in some input on how fast they think they could make these things without an engine swap. New neon driver never driven one before.

I'd start with a intake filter, or the whole kit, a kit on ebay is like $25 the cold air intakes are $55

I got a resistor on ebay for $8 haven't installed yet cause i cant get to the plug cause its wedged in there.

For free you could always take off your throtel body and port and polish it, I dont know how, but you could also make it a big bore 57mm, i think you have to buy a new peice for that though, gives you 10-15 more hp. then the spacer, i think those are like $20 anohter extra 15hp.

Right now, im working on my 95 plymouth neon to run right, i need to fix the throtel sticking, the lose throtel and the 12mpg problem. I know im spelling throtel wrong, but i dont really care.

Yeah, i need to replace the head gaskets because its around 113,000 miles, so time for a change. THen water is leaking into the trunk which i hear neons are natorious for. I guess it comes in throught the tail light. So im gonna fix that. As for the ports and polishing ill talk to my cousin on that. I think thats a good idea for the air filter. How do you take the shifter off, like the knob. Because im buying a silver after market knob with l.e.d red lights on the top and i dont know how to take the original knob and boot off because the aftermarket one comes wiht a boot.

Re: Just bought Neon

sorry man, dont have a manual. IM guessing it just screwes off? or has screws on the bottom? I dont have a leaking problem in the trunk thankfully. Only leeking problem i have is the driver side window, in the accident before i got the car, it shifted the window out a little, so its not strait, its pointing out, so water gets in the back top side of it.

P.s- Is your paint pealing off? It seems like every neon i see, there paint is comming off. The paint on the right side of the hood is on mine. Whats up with that?

No the shifter doesnt screw off I tried. Yeah about the trunk its notorious for the seals around the light to break and let water in. No my paint isnt peeling either. It had a recent paint job. It was in a accident i just found out. My uncle looked at it and he is a body expert and he said there was bondo in it so it had to have been in a crash. So they bondod it and repainted it. It also has new tires struts brakes everything. Only things i need to do is fix the dent in the trunk lid, put a new light switch it(It has a sweet spot) and im gonna redo my head gasget because those are also notorious for giving out. other then that its in like perfect shape.
