Guys,
I have a 1996 Cavalier that all of a sudeen only has no low or high beams. If I hold pull the switch forward, the lights will come on. I assume the switch is bad. I got the top of the steering cover off but can't figure out how to get the bottom half off over the tilt lever and ignition switch ??????? Anyone help me with this ? Does the Tilt Lever unscrew? Do I need to remove the Airbag fuse or disconnect the battery ? Thx, Andy |

Re: 1996 cavalier headlight switch removal help... Please
Does your headlight switch incorporate a cruise control and delay wipers?

I may be wrong, but far as i know, to replace the turn signal switch, you have to pull the steering wheel to get the switch out from inside the steering column housing. Once the wheel is off, then you have to pull the lockplate, cam assembly, and a spring. The turn switch should come out easy, watch out for the wiring harness, though.

Re: Re: 1996 cavalier headlight switch removal help... Please
Knifeblade,
Got one from junkyard. Comes right off once the top and bottom covers are removed. Had to make a notch in the junkyard one to get it past the tilt lever. There has to be a way to get the bottom cover off without destroying it. the key-cylinder ears and til lever prevent the bottom cover from being removed. thx, Andy |

Try turning the tilt lever, I have a 96 and mine just screws off. After that, just slip it off over the key cylinder.
