2000 Jetta with serious oil problems
Since I bought my Jetta new 4 years ago, it has been nothing but a nightmare. The oil light began flashing after about 1 1/2 years, and when I took it in, I was told that there was "sludge" in the oil and engine, and that the oil pan would have to be dropped and the enginge flushed. Well, about half a dozen of these so-called "flushes" and thousands of dollars later, I am ready to sue VW for the piece of junk they have sold me. After having it last flushed by my mechanic about two weeks ago, I drove off and the oil light start flashing again fifteen minutes later. I then called VW of America and ranted for 30 minutes about my horrible history with this car. They said there has been trouble with engine sludge, but the dealership swears it's only passat turbos with the problem, and there are no campaigns out there for Jetta oil problems. It seems to me the company has problems with the Jetta turbos as well. Anyway, the car has had a million other little problems, but this one is costing tons of money and time and is not getting any better. The dealership wants to do a diagnostic now to determine what is going on with the engine, but they told me VW is "very strict" and insists you have to have records of all your oil changes for them to pay to have the car fixed or have a new engine put in. I know it is not because I didn't change the oil. I have taken care of this car but it has not taken car of me. I am still paying money each month for a non-functioning money-pit, and I am not sure if I will be able to magically produce every single oil change record for the last 4 years, especially considering my husband has changed the oil a couple of times. I have considered trying to join a class-action suit, but none are out there yet. I want to contact my state attorney, but I'm not sure if that will help. I'd like to let consumer reports and the better business bureau know about this ongoing problem, but I just feel like I have no one on my side. ARGH!
