Squeaking noise..don't think its a belt

I have a problem. Day before yesterday I noticed that when I turned my car off ('97 GTP) there was a faint squeak....squeak...........squeeek. that came from under my hood. It was very faint...almost like what I imagine a mouse would sound like while being squeezed to death, and it only squeaked three, maybe four times before it fell silent. I hoped I was mistaken, but it kept happening. I popped the hood this afternoon and took a look at the belts, but nothing seemed out of the ordinary. Plus, I only hear the squeaking noise after I cut the car off. I turned everything off while driving, radio, heat, everything and I could hear nothing, yet when I cut the car off and parked there it was again. Any idea what it is and if I can fix it myself? I haven't noticed any change while driving or any other noises. I'd appreciated anything anyone knows about this. Thanks.

Have you ever stood outside with hood opened and let someone else shut it off. Could be a lot of things.

I know that my water pump started squeaking before I replaced it. It wouldn't make sense thought it it is doing it when the car is not running.

Just keep an eye on your temperature just incase. That's my best guess.

If there is no coolant leaking, I would suspect one of the idler or tensioner pulley bearings is starting to go. The water pump can get squeaky without noticing a drop in coolant level, but you will usually be able to see some seepage from around the "weep holes" in the water pump housing.

I agree.Remove both of the belt's and turn the pulleys and see it they turn freely.

acutally, being it is happening when you just off the car, i wouldnt doubt that it is one of your fan motors that are attached to the radiator.

in fact i would bet money on it. turn on your a/c, that ensures they both turn on and then shut the car off, or, with the car off, and keys out of the ignition, reach down and spin them yourself.
