front speaker removal 92 Corolla

OK, I've searched and found a little info, someone mentioned pulling the
whole dash speaker unit out from behind, but I've unscrewed all kinds of stuff
and seem no closer the getting those damn 4" dash speakers out of there, I'd like
to get my Pioneers in there but it looks like I have to take the whole dash out. Any
detailed instructions on removing those speakers with the metal grill in front of
them? It's a 92 Corolla DX

sounds like mine. I think the 92 corolla is similar to the 1991 corolla.

Basically with mine, you have to pry off the front grilles with a flathead screwdriver to find a ratchet screw and philips screw. Take those off, then take I believe either a 10mm or 11mm ratchet screw and take off the 2 screws on the bottom of the driver's side dashboard. One screw is located just above the gas pedal and the other is near the fuse box. With the front speakers, only the bottom half of the dashboard comes off. The upper half is if you want to replace your factory radio. That was a bitch to get off!

The passenger's speaker takes a little more effort. For one thing I didn't know if you had to take off the glove compartment which you do. Just remember, those two little square covers that are on the side, cover 2 more ratchet screws. There is an easy to take off plastic screw on the floor just near the right kickplate which will allow you to pry off the side frame panel so that you can take off the passenger's bottom half dashboard.

Then when you've taken down the bottom half dashboard, there are 3 yet ratchet screws holding down the black plastic speaker housing. After taking off THOSE 3 screws, you can unscrew the speakers from the housing.

I should have bought some Dynamat to begin with after replacing my factory speakers with Pioneer speakers because the polyfill material inside sucks! It's merely fabric. I don't get much rattling though...probably because those Pioneer speakers don't produce much bass.

I tried doing a search on google for installation guides for 1991 corolla speaker installation, but only came across this site by accident.

thanks

Yeah, I haven't had much chance to do anything with the speakers, I just put new
brakes on the front, rotors and all, and hopefully can get those speakers in soon. I'm using just rear speakers 'cuz the front ones are blown. I know what you mean
about Dynamat, it does rattle like hell, that stuff is spendy, I got some spray on
bumpy polymer stuff that I hope quiets down all the metal in there.

You can get the master sheet layout for your corolla from Crutchfield for $10 I believe. If you order other things from crutchfield.com, then they send it to you free. The master spec sheet shows how to remove both the front and rear speakers if you've got the split fold down or 1 piece rear seat and the removal instructions for the stereo.
