V6 To V8??? (help)

This summer I am thinking of swapping out my 2001 3.8L V6 and upgrading to either a 1999+ 4.8L V8 GT or a 1999+ 4.8L V8 Cobra. Is one or the other extremely easier than another, if so which one? What other parts other than the engine are needed? (rear end, wiring harness etc.) Whats steps are needed to do all these? How difficult and how long should it take to complete? What steps are to be taken after installation? Price?

Any comments, hints, tips on this subject are greatly appreciated!

It's 4.6, not 4.8. As far as price..you may aswell buy a GT.

I am currently in middle of a 1996 V6 to 01 Cobra engine swap. Actually almost done.

For you, because your have a 2001, your gonna have less issues to deal with than my swap. You can buy the crate engine package from Ford Racing, the Kit you want is the M-6001-C469. They have the other one which is a 2000 version but it does not have all the smog stuff. The PN is M-6001-C460. We paid $6243 shipped to the door (our house)

You will get the Tranny,
the H-pipe the engine wiring harness
the EEC-V computer
new keys and locks
the complete engine including intake
the Speedo
the fuel regulator
and smog stuff
and Hoses.
shifter
shifter boot

You will need to buy on your own, the cat back, and the Hydrabooster.
the Degaus bottle,Hydrabooster hose lock nuts, radiator, the passenger side muffler hanger.
It's not too difficult with the 99+ body because the majority of the wires are already there unlike the 96 V6 where I had to replace ALL of the wiring harness. I also had to replace the radiator, and fuel system, you won't need to replace the fuel system, but you will need to get a GT radiator and degass bottle. I had to competely strip the interior in order to do that remove the wire harnesses. You won't haft to because your just relacing the harness in the engine bay, and the computer, gauge cluster, and keys.

There are a couple of other crate engine packages that ford has, the 03 Cobra engine $12k and the Mach 1$5800

I can give you a step by step process that applies to the 01~02 V6 swap. the 99/00 are slightly different, and the 03~04 can't legally do the swap with a 99/01 cobra engine.

I am actually going to do the swap for my 00 V6 mustang, total cost for all the parts needed $7294. The V6 is paid off. New driveline.....and the car will be around for a while.

Re: V6 To V8??? (help)

The stock 4.6L Corba engine has 305HP from the factory while the crate engine that they are talking abut has 315. I get all my stock HP ratings from intellichoice.com, it helps when you get curious lol.

Re: V6 To V8??? (help)

Um..I don't know of a cobra with 305hp. The Mach 1 has 305hp..which is just the N/A 03/04 cobra motor. The 99/01 cobra was rated at 320hp. The 03/04 cobra has 390hp.
