Angry Dodge Dakota Starting Problems

I have a 98 Dodge Dekota Sport that has a lot of local mechanics puzzled.
The starter will "Click" but the engine will not turn over. We have, in the last three weeks, replaced the Battery Cables, (positive and ground) replaced the starter itself (New, not rebuilt) Checked all the wiring, and replaced the starter relay.
To get the motor to start, we have to disconnect the battery, turn the ignition switch on and off, reconnnect the battery cable, and then it will start as if there is no problems. We get no error codes from the computor module. All the dash indicator light work when trying to start but engine will not crank until all the other procedures are completed.
Any one got any ideas except selling it. I like the truck and its paid for..

No, It stock, no alarm system, only thing that was added was a flowmaster out back exhaust system. It has a 3.9 v6 with manual transmission.....

Re: Dodge Dakota Starting Problems

What happens when you cross the 2 terminals on the starter? Trace the small wire back to behind the battery, seperate the connector and energize the starter end with a test lead. All this works so far check the voltage at the other side of the connector when the key is turned. If this is good replug the connector. With the connector plugged together check voltage when someone turns the key, You may have to stab the wire or slip it up into the connector where the wire goes in. If this is good it has to be in the heavy wire side. If not the ignition slide switch may be bad or a loose terminal, etc. Good luck
