Hey guys... First of all, i have a question. Is the 1993 SE 2.0L 4-cyl an interference engine? I was told by 2 different mechanics that it is not, and I've been told by 3 others that it is... I've tried looking it up in books and on the web, but i couldn't find any info. The guys at ford and mazda both told me different...
Anyways, if it IS an interference engine, i was thinking about replacing the water pump and timing belt. The radiator has a slight leakage at the condenser... I went to a mechanic and he said that for the radiator replacement and the belt and pump (with labor), the total will be about 1 grand... This seems a bit high, but he's tellin me i've got a good deal on this. I'm going to go around town, but what would you guys suggest? |

Re: Price quotes
geez that's alot of money. uhh i had my water pump replaced for 300 w/ parts. im not sure about the rest, but i would say that is definatly not that good of a deal, and do you really need to do this? unless u have a lot of money, or have alot of mod's to your car, you need to ask your self is it worth fixing for a car that will sell for about 2000?

Re: Price quotes
Actually... I had just purchased this car... The whole front end has been redone (well, most of it so it seems) Looks like its been in a wreck prior... I was misled on the info about the car (ie: non-interference engine my butt) I signed a contract stating that the car WAS NOT in any accident, but when you put the lifts to the car, you can tell by how the front suspension was all replaced (ie:frame mounts redrilled) I talked to the DA and he says it might be able to follow under the lemon law. and seeing as how i just purchased this car, i might as well put some more cash into it and make her good... Maybe the parts/labor is just expensive here in NC? No mods to engine... Im just not sure when the pump/belt was last replaced, and i rather do the preventive maintence now than replace a block... Oh... for water pump and belt (parts and labor), cost is about 625....

Re: Price quotes
geez dude, i don't want to tell you this, but your never going to stop having problems with this car, atleast that is my experience, i bought the car for 1600, and i have put over 2000 into just "routine" maintenance, and i still have a freaking check engine light, and it has this hesitation problem, not to mention i have a bad valve cover seal, bad compression, worn rings, hmm what else can i think of, a leaking exhaust, cracked wind sheild, shitty paint. lol ohh yea, and a faulty knock sensor that makes me reset my ecu every 4-5 times i drive it. haha, any way, good luck! these car's are not reliable, just my experience tho.
