Question 86 Toyo PU Minor Starting Problem

Hey All, My 86 Toyota Pick Up, 22R gas engine, automatic transmission occasionally has a bit of a starting problem. Just over the last week or so at times when you try to start it, it just makes one "Click" under the hood. On the second try it always starts. I checked my battery, cleaning the posts etc, everything is fine there. Any Idea's? thanks

Re: Re: 86 Toyo PU Minor Starting Problem

Weak Selonoid! Exactly the problem. Selonoid burnt. Got a used starter, an hour or so of work and $50 later problem solved. The last week or so, I was barely able to get it started at all. Try, try and try.
I love that old truck. Easy to work on, easy to fix and cheap to run. Also, I had an 87 Camry. Thank god I got rid of that chunk of junk. I had the same problem with that car and asked the auto parts guy how much a starter was for that. It was only alittle more but he said the "Ring Gear" is the problem with those cars, not the starter.

definately the solenoid you could try and tapping it with a hammer, that usually makes it work.
