Accent quit shifting into overdrive

I've a 96 Accent. Transmission shifted fine at this point. The battery went totally dead. We let the car sit for a week before going out and buying a new battery. As soon as we started the car and went for a drive, the car would no longer shift into overdrive. The overdrive switch on the shifter appears to work - the light on the dash turns on/off when pushing the switch on/off. Does anybody have any suggestions? Thanks in advance.
