Re: I am looking to buy a Vr4

1st of all, $6500 isn't enough to buy a vr4, unless it's in crappy condition.

2nd of all, go get a quote for insurance on it and then decide if you really want one. Insurance will not be too nice for a 16 year old on a vr4.

Re: I am looking to buy a Vr4

You won't be able to find a VR4 for that much, SL you can though so look there and save up so you can get the car you realy want later on. Don't even think about a VR4 Spyder, they are crazy rare and even more insanely priced when they come on the market.

Re: I am looking to buy a Vr4

Hey bro not to be a dick or nothing, but i say definitely, definitely do not buy a vr4. I am 18 and and I just recently got my SL about 2 months ago. The thing runs great and its very fast as well, you will be very satisfied with the SL. I looked at about 5 different vr4s when i wanted that sweet as twin turbo and they are SO high in maintenance. Everyone i talked to had basically told me this phylosophy: If you dont have about 4 grand in the bank at all times dont go near the vr4. The turbos from what i hear go about around 140k miles and they very expensive to replace. You also have to factor in the expense of the 60k mile tuneup which comes out around 1000 dollars, but must be done on all models of the GTs. But from what it sounds you wont have thousands of dollars at the age you are at to pay for all of it. But hey man ya never know, maybe you would find a nice one that someone took care of with no problems what so ever. Its just the chance of you dropping thousands upon thousands of dollars in the twin turbo is so likely it isnt worth it. Go with a SL, I promise you wont be satisfied. Put the GT on your moms name, i cant stress that enough. THats what i did and we are paying 50 bucks a month and I am covered on it as well. Just my opinion, keep us updated on your purchase though.

turbos are not expensive to replace. you can buy replacement stock turbos for 300 dollars.

Re: I am looking to buy a Vr4

heyheyhey?! what about a good solid base model 3000GT? cheaper than an SL and you don't have that crappy leather. ya i said...leather sucks. might feel nice, but it doesn't grip you when autocrossing on side streets and its cold in winter and hot in summer...cloth stays at a moderate temp all year round. i got my base with 47k miles for a little over 8grand 2 yrs ago. in better shape now, but no regrets.

Re: I am looking to buy a Vr4

If you want more info, about every week someone comes on here and asks if a 3000gt is a good first car, so I'd do a search for "first car", you will find at least 20 threads with mostly the same info. Basically, the popular opinion around here is that the vr4 is too expensive to maintain and a bit too powerful for a first car. Also check out the FAQ as it has tons of good info for potential new owners. But yeah, check out the SL or base, you still love them.

-15Gs, 3sx aluminum pulley, FMIC, SAFC, walboro pump, EVO 560ccs, and Meth Injection Kit all waiting to go in shortly.

Your 1996 Mitsubishi 3000GT VR-4 is the 92nd out of the 315 that were made that year. Only 21 of which are exactly identical.

The SL is a fine choice and you can get a decent one in your price range. A VR4 in your price range would be pretty rough. A VR4 Spyder in your price range would mean that its been totalled.

Wouldn't seat covers do the trick tho to help out with the warm/cold problem... or what about just plain old racing seats???

Wasn't there some guy that got a spyder for 8k off autotrader not to long ago?
