Unhappy 94 s-10 trouble starting lopes while idling

i have a 4.3L in my 94 s-10.. for a few months ive been having to hold the key for a long time to get it to start and give it some gas.. i usually let the fuel pump run until it stops before starting it but it only seems to help very little.. if i turn the key to acc then back to run the pump will usually run a second time and then usually it starts easier.. why would this be and how can i make it so that i dont have to do this all the time.. also when it idles it speeds up and then almost stalls then speeds up again it does this until u run it above 1000rpm(just a guess i dont have a tach) also i seem to be running ritch.. i havent tried much just mostly injector cleaner and changing plugs..

Thanks matt

Check your CPI injector for leaking through the IMTV valve hole under the vortec name plate.

Remove and clean and scrub your IAC valve and the hole it inserts into and make sure they are both clean and then reinstall.

Then remove and check your EGR valve. Clean, and then reinstall.

Then reset the computer by pulling the negative cable off of the battery for 10 minutes, then reattach it, start your engine and allow it to relearn the idle.

Just today I got the same issue and my check enine soon light came on. Very rough idle and stink, stink, stink. Once the RPM's go up the issue appears to go away. I went to my local parts house and the code said ERG failure. Pending what code the ERG is it will cost 59-79 bucks. There is one code out there that will set you back $230. I have not found what I have yet, hopefully a good cleaning will fix the issue.

What is an IAC you recommend cleaning? I am not familiar with either of these parts. Are they easy to install yourself? Any on-line reference guides? Would a bad ERG also take a few gallons/mile off of the fuel ecomony?

THanks!!!

Re: 94 s-10 trouble starting lopes while idling

Remove the EGR valve and clean out the carbon kepping it plugged open. Do NOT replace the valve, just clean and reinstall with a new EGR gasket.

The IAC is the idle air control valve and should be cleaned every once in a while to clean out it and the hole it inserts into.

I would recommend buying a repair manual and do some searching around the forum to find out more information.
