Possible transmission issue
Hello, as I was backing out of my driveway to go somewhere I noticed my mini-van, a Dodge Caravan would not move in reverse or drive. This is the second time it has occurred. It is very cold here in New York, and I allowed my engine to run for about ten minutes, and was able to engage in gear.
I left my mini-van at a transmission shop and I am concerned about what the findings will be. The mechanic said, "the most common repair in these types of vehicle is limp end." But it doesn't stall or limp. I checked the fluid level and it is good but brown and thick. I have expressed my concerns with the mechanic at the repair shop, and he is not to perform work until he speaks with me. I have very little knowledge about vehicles if any at all and would like input as to what I need to discuss with him. Thank you for your input. |

Re: Possible transmission issue
First thing you can have your mechanic do is to change your transmission fluid IMMEDIATELY. With fluid that is brown, it's corroded and burnt. I would strongly suggest that you also get a complete flush of your system, to remove all those impurities from the old, gummed up fluid. And when you do get that done, make sure you advise the mechanic to only use Mopar ATF +3, assuming your van is '99 or older. If he fails to use the wrong fluid, you'll be back at square one w/ transmission problems b/c someone used the wrong fluid.
