Progress : Alfa Romeo Giulietta Spyder - Historic club racer

OK, here s what I ve been tackling lately.

It's a Work in Progress of this car, recently rereleased by Italeri.
From my experience sofar, I d only get this car when you are starving of hunger and the last thing that's left to eat is this.

It took me really long time to make everything on the body fit (as all panels are separate, also the doors). That was a major PITA, cause it needed lotsa sanding, puttying and sweat to make it look like it is now.
Also the front had to be modified , because the holes where the air goes in the engine, were superbig, cause there are supposed to be chrome parts there, that I intend to not use.

The idea behind this build is inspired by ZZMX5's clubman Healey and also of the nice green Cobra that haunted these forums lately.

I wanted to make a race-spec car, to go racing in on sundays.

So I stripped it from all superficial stuff, like locks, bumpers, plateholders... and puttied all holes for shit like wipers, chrome stuffs etc.

The interior has been made sparse too, I m planning on putting race-equipment next to the driver's seat, which I took out of a Fujimi Skyline.
The interior also boasts a rollbar made of bent brass tubes.
The front window is an upside down version of the Revell XKSS's one, modified to fit this car.
Then there are the lights, which were really poor, so I used only the outer chrome rings of the original kit and glued the back of some spare lights to that, so it atleast looks nice.

Up to the chassismods...

There I put in posable steering in the front, small diskbrakes (not pictured) all around and made a side-exhaust system.

The rims are the quite not up to par fujimi enkei tarmac rims , that have been taken under hands extensively, by taking all the shit inside out, and thinning the inside part, also the rims have been thinned one by one.
The tyres were the same as these tarmac rims, but as they needed to be half the size, I cut both the tyres and rims in half, and then sanded them back flush using various grades of sandpaper.

And the paintjob is a complete FLOP, so I will do that again pretty soon.

That's about if for those who want more info after seeing the

PICS

Feel free to comment, discuss or just joke around.

Sunday racers are the best racers! Great start, Oli, this thing is going to be magnificent. I love the detail you've done on the wheels and I can't imagine trying to peice together all the seperate panels, especially when it's not a Tamiya kit. Cool racer coming our way! Looking forward to seeing it done!

That's really cool! Guess that's what happens when you mix Capri and Coke, eh?

That wheels look great at this little car. Your choice of paint also looks very nice.
I will follow your build with great interest as I built the Revell-edition once.
I still remember the problems you told above... What a horrible kit that was. Could it be a Protar-reissue?

Good luck!

I like where this is going. I have a thing for Alfas and was interested in the Italeri kit, but had reservations. May just get it anyway, depending on how this looks when finished. I think you have some good ideas for this kit, so keep us posted!

Wow, this is really cool, I really need to look at this motorsports forum more often , I didn't know you were working on this!

Looks great so far. I guess this is the old Protar kit reboxed by Italeri? Some guy on another board built a stock one, and had to do a ton of improvements as well.

Not sure if I can find it or not, it's been awhile and it's from a guy in England who doesn't post here. He posted it on the Hobby Heaven message board. He turned new rims and did a lot of engine work.

Re: Progress : Alfa Romeo Giulietta Spyder - Historic club racer

some update, repainted the whole, and added some twotone paint on it.

Some flaws in the paintwork are still left, but nothing some well-placed decals won't take care of ,

ciao

Oli (who ruined a perfectly good scaglietti paintjob)

Looking awesome, Oli! Are those the Enkei Tarmacs that you thinned? I am looking forward to progress on this, I have a similar (ahem) MX-5 project coming up. We shgould all get together with our club racers one day, and have a race!

I can't wait to see the nice clean racer come to fruition, keep us posted.

Looks very good, to bad the decals are to transparent and lost some colour on that beautifull gray body.

Looks great! You'd better get out the bug spray, I see you're getting a Beetle infestation on your workbench .
