97 Grand stalls when in gear
Ive searched the archives for this problem. Jeep starts fine but once I put it in gear it will die. Seems like if RPMs drop from more than 2000 it will stall, if RPMs are constant and low it runs fine. It idles okay, but I can see a little fluctuation. Im wondering if its the IAC even if it idles okay when not in gear. The fuel pump and filter are all new, but its time for new cap, rotor and plugs. What do you guys think? Mabye crankshaft or cameshaft sensors?
Also, I cant get the error codes to come up, on/off three times right? |

Re: 97 Grand stalls when in gear
when it stalls does it jerk violently before stalling, or just stall?
to extract the CODES, Cycle the ignition key On - Off - On - Off - On within 5 seconds. Count the number of times the check engine lamp on the dash flashes on and off. The number of flashes represents the trouble code. with a short pause between each digit and a long pause between each code. Example: Lamp flashes 5 times, pauses, and flashes 5 more times. This indicates a code number 55. A code 55 will always be the last code to be displayed. This will indicate the end of all stored codes. Yes it could be the IAC valve. it should increase slighty or remain steady when placed in gear. |

It dosnt jerk at all. Its like the engin bogs down if the RPMs dont remain constant. If it drops to around 1000 it cant recover and dies. After a stall, it takes a little extra cranking and some gas to get it started again.
thanks for the reply |
