Thermostat

How do I locate and replace the thermostat on my '97 2.2 sunfire?

there will be 2 hoses goin from your rad, the one going to the drivers side of the engine above your tranny is the one you want. Your thermostat is located in the metal housing at the end of the hose on the engine. To replace the thermostat you drain about a gallon of the coolant from the rad. There is a little screw on the bottom of the rad to drain the coolant. You then remove the rad hose from the engine side. then take the bolts out of the cover and voila there is ur thermostat. change it being aware of any gasket or o-ring around the thermostat, Replace them. Put the new thermostat in put back together and add coolanmt to the reservoir while running the car with the heater controls on high heat.
Also if you are replacing this because your car is overheating, it'd be a good idea to check you ECT sensor. This sensor controls when the fan comes on and if it is malfunctioning the fan won't come on and the car will overheat.
