engine diagnostic question

who wants to be the bearer of bad news for me??
(as if i dont already know)

i havent gotten a chance to really investigate this thoroughly yet, but
got what seems to be a serious coolant leak in the 3.4. havent noticed any drips or puddling under the car, at first glance havent noticed any leaks in the engine bay. losing coolant none the less, seems when i drive somewhere and not just sitting in the garage. however no bubbles in the radiator while engine runs. ill be checking the oil when it warms up and i get a chance, anyone got any other suggestions as to what i should look at

You should get in and under it and have a closer look for leaks.. after you've ruled that out,
does it smoke on accel? Start your car up and check under the oil cap, and on the dipstick.. Coolant in the oil will show up as a milky colored foam.. Burning white sweet smelling smoke? Another trick, if coolant is leaking into one of your cylinders, you'l notice when you pull the plug out.. it'l be clean and shiny..

have you done any work to the coolant system recently? possible you just have alot of air in the lines thats working itself out?
Rad cap might not be letting coolant back into the system and the resouvoir could be overflowing while driving?
Check your floormats! heatercore could be dumping it into the cab..

also you can buy (or possibly rent, we have a loan a tool program here) a coolant system pressure tester thatl let you pressurize the coolant system and make it easier for you to spot leaks..

If all else fails, a leak-down test might tell you where your problem is!

i noticed this after i changed the coolant and stat for the winter so i was hoping it was air working itself out. if i got the chance i was gonna check the oil this weekend, but i didnt know about the plugs. those are good suggestions thanks a ton.

im not sure if you've got bleeder screws or anything like that in the 3.4, But air in the cooling system is a fairly common problem in the Supra community.. What I do is park the front of the car on ramps (so the rad is the highest point of the cooling system) Take the rad cap off, and run the car for a few minutes (heater on High) til its warm, then have someone rev it up to about 3000rpm and hold it while you shake the heater hoses and coolant hoses around to get the air moving.. You should see bubbles coming out of the rad, then just re-fill/repeat as necassary
