Question gas mileage

Currently getting 12.5 mpg city. Granted it's been real cold out lately.
This time I purposely didnt let it idle for periods of time to be more accurate.
I see a lot of others says 13-15 city and 20-26 highway.

Am I far enough off so I should think theres an issue?
I've done PCV, Fuel Filter, & Air Filter. Engine is running smoothe so I'm trying to avoid doing plugs and wires till it's a little warmer out. Low on cash too.

thanks

J

Re: gas mileage

Holy crap~!

I just read the 98 4.3 LT takes 4 02 sensors! 2 on each side. 2 in front of the cat, and 2 in back!

At $53 a piece (which is cheaper ones) that's over $200!!!!!

Anyone done all four? Anyone notice a difference in mileage?

Re: gas mileage

I would imagine if the O2 sensors were bad you would be getting a check engine light. How many miles do you have? Once you change the plugs, wires it may go p quite a bit. Try running some fuel injector cleaner through it and see if it helps. Try LUCAS fuel injector cleaner- it works pretty well. Good Luck

thanks, I actually recently (over a week or two) ran the lucas injector cleaner through. So I guess I should poney up the dough for the wires/plugs. Just was living my the old "if it aint broke, don't fix it" oath

Re: gas mileage

You need to look at the following:

Plugs
Cap & Rotor

I would at least swap in a new cap and rotor if it hasn't been done.

I thought you didnt have a cap and rotor if it was fuel injected?

Re: gas mileage

It has one, you should replace it.

Re: gas mileage

Some, fuel injection NEVER means you automatically don't have a cap and rotor.

Never assume that.

Blazer LT is correct. It does indeed have a cap and rotor . Note: you will need two different size torx drivers two remove the cap and rotor ,wires have numbers on them so does the cap which makes it nice.

Re: gas mileage

i just changed my CPI and Nut kit. tune up with plugs, wires, cap, rotor. i still get 12-13 MPG. grant you its cold but i think it should be doing better then that. and air filters clean and 2.5" cat back so theres plenty of flow. any reason on why still bad gas mileage? and the CPI or nut kit arent leaking.

4 02 sensors.....................be prepared to pay $200 at the least for just the parts to do it yourself. I think we'd have trouble codes if they were bad though. How's your tire pressure?

Re: gas mileage

How are you calculating the fuel economy?

Also, is this stop and go city driving?

Re: gas mileage

i drive 3-4 miles each way to work. average speed is 45-55. 45 going and 55 coming home. almost no stop and go traffic. i got the numbers by filling the tank. driving 40 miles and then refilling the tank and taking down the number of gallons and deviding it into the miles driven.
