Hi, in my 383 , I have apro stock cam 488 lift, dbl hump heads with 194 intakes and 1.6 ex valves ,ported and polished ,weiand 4'high rise intake and a eldo AFB carb ,roller timing chain,HV oil pump.71 HEI dist with vac advance,holly hv fuel pump, at this moment its still on my engine stand but runs ,used a 454 hd starter,so have no trouble cranking , have started it up a few times (have coolant in it) and its BAD trys to jump off stand at idle. have fun Slim

I am doing the same thing 383

I have just starting building a 383 and would like ANY advice also. Any one with one (383)I also would like to hear from ya.

SORRY better late

Sorry I guess I am late on this post didn't notice the post date,I was just happy to see someone also building a 383 small block chevy.
It's damn near a mirror project as the one above. I am wondering which hormonic ballancer to use the 350 or the 400 as they are totaly diffrent in the way they work. I have a book "BIG INCH chevy small blocks" but it is kind of gray on that section. I'm sure the machine shop will know unless some one out there knows.
I would like to compare notes with any one that has built or has knowledge about this motor. I have heard nothing but good things about this motor(383) I haven heard anything bad yet..........
