For a couple years now, the car has had some trouble with the HVAC.
1. On long trips, sometimes the airflow will cut out. You can still hear the fan blowing, but there is no air coming from anywhere. Well, I changed the HVAC control, after the display died. It worked for a while (6 months), and then the display started dying again 2. About a week ago, I noticed a puddle on the passenger side floor board. Seems when it rains, now it is leaking onto the floor. This isn't a little leak either, there is a PUDDLE. 3. The fan makes a squeeling sound sometimes, like the bushings or bearings are dying. I am thinking it may have to do with #2. 4. Today on the way home, the fan stuck on full blast. I can't turn it down, but I can still adjust temp and direction. Of course, now it is shutting off flow after a few minutes. What can it be that is wrong with it? Is the HVAC control bad? Where is this leak coming from? Something plugged up with leaves? I am seriously frustrated, since it was working great, up until I decided to sell it. I really hate this car. Help Please! |

Re: 99 Regal HVAC problems

2.Sounds as if the rubber strip above the Fresh Air Intake filter is starting to come off.GM used some clips that would fall off or get weak and no hold that strip of rubber any longer. To fix it, clean the area very well, then use some silicone sealer adhisive and place the rubber molding back in place. That happen's to alot of the W-body cars 97/03 You can see the rubber molding in this picture,it's about 12/18 inchs long 3 & 4.Yes 3 has to do with 4.You will need to remove the fan and clean out the HVAC box.Get some White lithium spary and lube the motor/bushings.There is also a black rubber drain tube that you can also pull out and make sure that part is clean of debris. While your in cleaning the fan there is a blower motor resistor that controls speed,if it's bad it will only control high speed. It's located at the back of the box.To make the work easy and not cramp you up,pull out the front passanger seat to give you alot more room, while laying on your back. Pictures of Blower Motor resistor. Most parts stores will carry that part.Cost is about 35/40 bucks Good Luck! ~Larry~
