Question Tailight Modification Question

So I have done the happy fun painting of the front lamps (paint the silver reflector black) but I feel Im lacking in the taillight department.

How do I go about removing the amber yellow reflector/lens - leave it clear, and put in an amber bulb. Kinda like the 92-95 Si tails?

Anyone ever done it? I am reluctant to piss around with taking it apart if it can't be done, I suspect that it's just an amber insert that is removed,

BUT I dont want a clear lens with an amber bulb peakin out, I want the opaque clear, like the reverse light, so it's a solid band across the back.

eh?

thanks all
(please no preference if you think it's "greddy 2" that's fine, I still wanna do it...thanks)

Re: Tailight Modification Question

you would have to crack the tailight open and pull out the amber reflector...it wont look the same as the 92-95 si lights but it will kinda give you what your looking for but you have to worry about sealing the light properly so you dont get water in them like some euroclears, i recommend going to ebay and buying some si tailights, a friend of mine got his for $80 shipped....

You have to heat up the glue to pull it apart. Either set your oven to about 350 degrees and bake it for about 10-15 minutes or take a heat gun to it. Or take Benny's advice and just cop a set of Si tails, which is what I would probably do.

pretty sure that 350 degrees for 10-15 minutes would melt the plastic shell of the lamp assembly...when I did the headlamps, I went the 175 degrees for 8-10 minutes, worked just fine, no warping or melting.

I'd rather not spend the coin on buying headlights, especially if I can do it myself, I just wanna know how that amber piece is in there, is it a sticker or piece behind an opaque reflector, or is it one solid yellow piece that when removed leaves clear plastic behind?

I know how to take the tails apart, I just don't want to until I know how the inside works, if it isn't going to be opaque, I'm not gonna bother with it.

Thanks for the input though all

Do you mean the '99-'00 Si tail lights? As far as I'm aware, all the '92-'95 hatchback tail lights are all the same.

noooooo....Si like the 92-95 civic Si coupe tails, nuthin but red and opaque white, the half and half ones....I think it's 92-95....but I want time to be red on top, then opaque white across the middle, and the red reflector on the bottom. replace the amber signal reflector with an opaque white one...

Re: Tailight Modification Question

There was no '92-'95 Si coupe only a hatchback, the Si coupe was the '99-'00. And those were red on top and clear (white) on the bottom, only a top and bottom and no middle lense. Here's a pic of them from edmunds.com: http://a332.g.akamai.net/f/332/936/1...1/024033-E.jpg

ya ya, I got that, I had my years confused, I want to make a white middle band on the 97 lights, know what I mean? Red brake, white middle, red reflector. I know it doesn't exist, half the fun of making it, I was hoping someone would know how.

ugh, yer killin me smalls.

I was thinkin about gettin ghetto on it. Buy some translucent white reflector tape from pep boys er something, pulling out the amber reflector, and putting the tape in its space. Might work...is there such a thing as translucent white reflector tape?

me an my ideas....oy

or paint the silver reflector in there white, might give it the immediate look of an opaque white....
