A quick question for you guys, I have a 96 yukon with the 5.7, I recently installed the hypertech power programmer, and also bought the hypertech 160 degree thermostat. I have heard a few different things on running a low degree thermostat like that. Some say I want have a problem, others say the cold start (choke on newer models) will never turn off because it will never get warm enough. Just wondering if any of you have run a 160 in this type of truck and if it is ok to do so? If you have any info on this please let me know.
thanks brad |

Re: 160 degree thermostat
My opinion: 160 is too low. I did the HyperTech on my '98 7.4 Sub and went with the 180. No problems to date. Coolant temp is a big thing for the PCM. If it doesn't get hot enough it will stay in the "enriched" mode. Not good!!
